Youth at The Hood
A Place for Young People to Connect, Learn and Thrive
At the George Town Neighbourhood House, we're committed to creating safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces where young people can build confidence, develop skills, make connections and have fun.
Whether you're looking for something to do after school, support to navigate life's challenges, or opportunities to meet new people, there's a place for you at The Hood.
Our Youth Programs
🎉 After School Activities
A fun, free program where young people can hang out, try new activities and connect with friends.
Activities may include:
Sports and games
Arts and crafts
Outdoor activities
Special guest sessions
Community projects
Suitable for primary school-aged children.
When: 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, during school terms
⚽ Footy Fest
Every Monday during School Terms
Footy Fest brings young people together through sport, teamwork and community connection.
Whether you're a football fanatic or just keen to join in the fun, everyone is welcome.
Footy Fest focuses on:
Physical activity
Building confidence
Teamwork
Positive relationships
Having fun
🎲 Fam Bam Bingo
Every Tuesday during school terms
Fam Bam Bingo is a fun, family-friendly program that brings children, parents, grandparents and carers together for an afternoon of games, laughter and connection.
More than just bingo, it's an opportunity to:
Spend quality time together
Meet other local families
Build community connections
Enjoy a safe and welcoming environment
Have plenty of fun along the way
Everyone is welcome, regardless of age or experience.
🎓 Children's University
Weekly Wednesdays 3-4pm during School Terms
Children's University encourages children to discover new interests and develop a love of learning through exciting activities and experiences. To be apart of this program you must register and there is a one off fee of $22.50 (if the fee is a barrier to participating please speak to us)
Participants can:
Explore new skills
Attend workshops and excursions
Earn learning credits
Celebrate achievements through graduation ceremonies
🌏 Big Wide World Project
Growing up can be challenging, and sometimes navigating adult life feels overwhelming.
The Big Wide World Project provides practical one-on-one support to help young people:
Apply for Centrelink
Obtain a Tax File Number
Access Medicare
Get identification documents
Connect with employment and training opportunities
Work towards obtaining a driver's licence
Access community support services
Our goal is to help young people build confidence and independence as they transition into adulthood.
