No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS)

The No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) provides safe, fair and affordable loans for low-income Tasmanians to purchase essential goods and services.

Unlike payday lenders or rent-to-buy schemes, NILS loans have:

✔ No interest
✔ No fees or charges
✔ No credit checks
✔ Affordable repayments

NILS can provide loans of up to $2,000 for eligible applicants to purchase essential items and services.

What Can NILS Help With?

NILS loans may be available for:

• Car registration and repairs

• Household appliances and whitegoods

• Furniture

• Computers and tablets

• Education expenses

• Medical and dental costs

• Rental bond and rent in advance

• Family violence support costs

• Other essential goods and services approved under the scheme

Please note that NILS loans are paid directly to the supplier and are not cash loans. NILS cannot be used for food, bills, holidays, debt consolidation, or second-hand goods.

Am I Eligible?

You may be eligible if you:

• Hold a Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card, DVA Card or Low Income Card and receive a regular Centrelink or DVA payment; or

• Meet the low-income eligibility requirements; and

• Have the capacity to repay the loan.
